The delivery room of the future
The regional hospital in Herning thinks out of the box. Their new ’Delivery room of the future’ is no exception. FUMAC has participated in this exciting development and has supplied a bed for the Herning project which, without doubt, will set a new standard within the area.
Design and furnishing is very important to our wellbeing. This has also been discovered at the Regional Hospital Unit West in Herning. For this reason, the midwives of the Regional Hospital collaborated with the midwifery education, amongst others, to create an entirely new and modern delivery room where the expecting family can make themselves comfortable as their mood takes them – with sound, lighting, pictures and furniture.
The delivery room of the future, as the project has been popularly named, is a result of several years’ of surveys which show that the safer and the more relaxed the couple feels during labour, the easier the birth. FUMAC, which already celebrates a long tradition in furniture and innovative furnishings, is one of the collaborative partners of the project. To us, it is all about creating usable solutions – that is, furniture which, due to its design and function, plays a part in creating the best possible surroundings.
FUMAC’s bed for the ‘Delivery room of the future’ was designed by our in-house architect, Lars Østergaard, and manufactured by European House of Beds. The purpose of the bed – inspired by the classic chaise lounge – is to create a cosy atmosphere for the couple as well as good working conditions for the midwife. It features, amongst others, height adjustment and pouffes which may be moved around easily to provide optimum support. In short, the mother-to-be may be kept out of the delivery bed for as long as possible. Something which has been an important issue to all parties.
The project has received great publicity in the media.
