Climate footprint on 95% of FUMAC’s furniture
As an important part of FUMAC’s journey toward more responsible production, we have, since February 2025, automatically provided CO₂eq climate data for approximately 95% of our product range to all our customers via electronic environmental documents, included with our order confirmations, delivery notes, and invoices. Naturally, you can also request these figures in advance.
This means that you and your colleagues can see the CO₂eq climate footprint ‘from cradle to gate’ for each individual FUMAC piece of furniture – down to the variant level. In other words, you can see how many kilos of greenhouse gases (not just CO₂) have been emitted during the production of the furniture.
The figures are calculated as a ‘self-assessment’ using the independent company Målbar’s EU-certified climate screening tool, which determines the total climate footprint of a product in accordance with the European calculation method, EU PEF (Product Environmental Footprint).
‘Self-assessment’ means that the CO₂eq impact per component is calculated as a ‘worst-case scenario,’ using a conservative approach that considers the highest possible emissions.
This calculation method aligns perfectly with FUMAC’s values: We always stand behind what we say and do, and we are, of course, working toward documenting 100% of our product range.
The primary purpose of collecting and recording our CO₂eq impact has been, and continues to be, to learn how FUMAC can optimize and reduce our climate footprint. Climate screening of products is a key part of our journey toward sourcing and producing more responsibly, reducing transport, minimizing packaging, and more.
At the same time, we are increasing transparency and credibility, helping you and your customers make more informed choices by understanding the CO₂eq impact of a given piece of furniture – the climate cost the planet pays for a product. In short, we support well-thought-out and sustainable furniture choices.
We expect that CO₂eq impact will become a decisive factor for many customers when choosing furniture – if not already, then in the near future.
However, it is important to remember that climate data alone cannot be the sole factor when choosing furniture. It is always essential to select high-quality furniture with functional value and long durability.
Example MADRID table:
MADRID table 120 x 80 cm: 90.39 CO₂eq which corresponds to 428 km of driving in an average car, or 9 steaks (300g each), or 203 hours of streaming.
